Lake towns are often an underrated destination to spend a day surrounded by friends and family while soaking up the sun and enjoying both leisurely and adventurous activities, from lounging along the shores or fishing in the quiet of the surrounding nature to hopping into a boat for a ride along the water or showing off your skills wakeboarding.

FinanceBuzz searched around the country for some truly stunning locales near the water, compiling a list of the "most popular" lake town in each state. According to the site, the top choice for Georgia is the unique destination of Helen, a small, popular northeastern spot known for its Bavarian-style buildings and enjoyable atmosphere. Helen was even named the "most charming" small town in the state!

Here's what the site had to say about the best lake town in the state:

"Helen is an alpine town in Georgia, noted for the mountain trails through Chattahoochee National Forest. Helen is a must-experience community for trout-fishing, waterfall explorers, or history lovers (the 1870s homestead here is phenomenal)."
